It fully complies with the Department for Education's statutory guidance.

We use this award to help us keep up to date with current initiatives and current Labour Market Information which enables us to promote a high quality service that our students are able to utilise and use when making realistic choices Post 16 with a positive attitude and confidence.

Year 11 is an important time for a number of reasons, but in the main, the students need to focus on their qualifications and transition onto further education, an apprenticeship, a traineeship or working with a training provider.

All staff across the three sites of Brownhill Learning Community, work to support all students with their subjects as well as continued support from the Career Advisor form Positive Steps and the school's Progression Officer.

You can always have help with any forms that you might have to complete when your son / daughter leaves school with regards to travel or college from schools Progression Officer and Career Advisor. 

All you have to do is ring school and they will make an appointment to do a home visit to assist you.

You can also access the schools Progressions Officer for up to a year after your son/daughter leave's school if there are any problems.  Alternatively you can access a Community Advisor at one of the Positive Steps Services, based in Rochdale, Oldham and Middleton.

How we prepare our students for the future

The CEIAG is differentiated to ensure progression through activities that are appropriate to students' stages of career learning, planning and development.

Primary

In primary our students' access Life Skills lessons and take part in National Careers Week where people from different job sectors come into school and talk about their job roles.

Career Education, Information, Advice and Guidance is now part of PSHCE, which is accessed by all years 7-11 in the Spring Term and supported across the three sites by Diane Wilkinson and Pete Tupman.  AQA Key Stage 3 pupils will access Entry Level Unit Award and Key Stage 4 will access AQA Level 1 Unit Award.

Year 10

Year 10's have access to:

• Skills North West Careers Fair at Event City, Trafford
• School's own in-house careers fair which parents are also invited to
• On-site Careers Advisor for support and guidance
• Progression Officer for support and guidance
• Whole school approach on National Careers Week
• Vocational Courses
• Industry work experience linked to vocational course

Year 11

Year 11's have access to:

• School's own in-house Careers Fair
• Careers Advisor for support, guidance, visits to colleges, training providers and all interviews
• Progression Officer for support, guidance, visits to colleges, training providers and all interviews
• Whole school approach on National Careers Week
• Vocational Courses
• Industry Work Experience linked to vocational courses
